True to our name, we do things a little differently.
At Maverick, we don't just talk about sustainability. We live it. Maverick takes our role an as industry leader very seriously and we work to be an example of how an environmentally-conscious company should operate. We believe that the greatest positive impact that we can have on the environment is to reduce our carbon footprint by limiting the amount of fuel that it takes to operate our equipment.
We began implementing aggressive fuel conservation programs long before global warming and carbon footprint were part of the vernacular. We've made significant improvement in the efficiency of our fleet through the years.
In one year alone, improvements in our fleet's fuel economy saved over a million gallons of fuel and prevented over 20,000,000 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
We rely heavily upon our Fuel Economy Incentive Program (FEI), which provides our drivers with incentives to meet fuel economy targets. Additionally, we have a Fuel Bonus Program in place that financially rewards drivers for their fuel conservation efforts. In order for a driver to even be eligible for our prestigious Driver of the Month award, he/she must have an average fuel efficiency score of 6.85 miles per gallon.
On the equipment side of the spectrum, Maverick has always embraced technology and regulations that allow us to operate more efficiently. We've been an early adopter of each iteration of engine and transmission technologies that have dramatically reduced nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter. All of our trucks have wide base tire technology and tire inflation/monitoring technology which reduces rolling resistance and aids fuel efficiency.
Additionally, we have embraced EPU (Electric Power Unit) technology that utilizes a series of batteries to power the bunk of our trucks. This provides a comfortable environment for our drivers while simultaneously reducing the idle time of our engines. We are well known in the industry for working with our equipment providers to push the envelope and develop technology that will make a difference for all of us.
We are truly committed to doing the right thing for the environment despite the fact that it is more expensive in the short-run. We have and will continue to spend millions of dollars to preserve not only the health of our company, but of our people. It is an investment not only in the future of our company, but an investment in our company's employees and their families. It is with great pride and conviction that we continue our quest to be a catalyst for positive change.
