MAVERICK TRANSPORTATION DRIVER, THOMAS SHOLAR, NAMED A 2023 TCA PROFESSIONAL DRIVER OF THE YEAR

  Wednesday, March 8, 2023

March 8, 2023 (North Little Rock, Ark.) – Maverick Transportation is excited to announce that out of over hundreds of nominations, one of their finest drivers, Thomas Sholar was chosen as one of 2023’s Truckload Carriers Association Professional Drivers of the Year. According to the TCA, they “look for those exceptional drivers who have made a significant impact over the past year on the industry, their driver colleagues, their community, and the company that employs them. TCA Professional Drivers of the Year nominees should also have superior safety records, be strong role models and have inspiring stories that have made a difference in their lives and the truckload industry.” (www.tcaprofessionaldriversoftheyear.com, 2/7/2023)

Thomas Sholar has been with Maverick for nearly 20 years and drives in their flatbed division. He is a 2016 Driver of the Month and has earned multiple safe-driving awards at Maverick. Thomas has also received his one and two million-mile awards and is rapidly approaching his 20-years of safe driving milestone in 2023.

In 2017, Thomas was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and during his battle, he underwent multiple bouts with intense radiation and a taxing surgical procedure. During this time, he thought he was done driving, but wanted to keep going and live to do what he loves: teaching others. Thomas’s original passion was to be a teacher and that desire led him to become a road trainer at Maverick. As of 2023, 5 of his former students are now road trainers themselves and another 5 have also been named Maverick Drivers of the Month.

According to Vice President of Operations, John Coppens, “Thomas is someone we all look forward to seeing in the office, over the road, or hearing from via text or a call. Most impressive is his ability to have fun along with his ability to teach, collaborate, motivate, and compete with his fellow Mavericks. Don’t confuse his easy demeanor with someone that doesn’t like to mix it up with a healthy push of friendly competition. Whether it’s competing over MPG performance with drivers or competing with Maverick leadership over new technology and those things that affect drivers, Thomas is in the mix. We’re very proud of him…he’s a great Maverick and an even better friend to all of us.”
